Explained: The Different Versions of Windows 7

There are actually six different versions of Microsoft's current flagship operating system. This articles aims to describe the differences between them. We'll explore each one in order of sophistication, examining some of the features that each possesses. It's worth noting that each 'upgrade' contains all the features of the previous version, so there is no kind of trade-off when changing versions.

Firstly, Starter is the most basic, only available in 32-bit (all the other versions allow for 32- and 64-bit) and has very few features that can be modified by the user - the desktop wallpaper and other visual features are no editable. This version is suited to simple netbooks and other small, low-powered devices.

Home Basic is similar to Home Premium (see below) but is aimed at "emerging markets" (South America, Africa etc) and has fewer features.

Home Premium is the version that most people will be familiar with, as it is best suited to home PC use and includes Windows Media Centre for things like home movies and video editing.

Targeted at small businesses, Professional has some extra features suited to the corporate environment such as printer location tools, backups, and the useful XP Mode.

Enterprise is similarly aimed at the corporate sector but is sold through Microsoft's licensing channel (Microsoft Software Assurance). It contains a number of benefits such as a Multi-lingual user interface and support for UNIX applications.

Ultimate has all the same features as Enterprise but is available for home use. It is possible to upgrade from Vista to Ultimate without doing a complete re-install; this is not possible with Enterprise.

In conclusion, it's somewhat unclear why there are so many versions of the same basic OS. Home Premium is what is bundled with the majority of PC sold in consolidated markets (i.e the Western world, US, UK, Western Europe and so on) and can be considered, to an extent, the default or standard edition. The differences between Home Basic (for emerging markets) and Home Premium are puzzling: Microsoft seem to be differentiating for the sake of it. Market segmentation is important, and the advanced editions like Enterprise and Ultimate are understandable, but it seems odd to hobble certain users based on geographical location.

Finally, it's interesting to note that whatever version you have installed on your machine, it will contain every available feature (as in Enterprise or Ultimate) but you only have access to the version you have installed. Upgrading to a more advanced version simply means unlocking more features.

Why You Should Not Connect Your Twitter Account to Your Facebook Account

Twitter has made it very easy to connect Twitter to your Facebook profile or fan page. This allows you to make a post on Twitter and then have it automatically come up on your Facebook page. While this seems ideal, this is not a very good idea for many people.

Twitter and Facebook, while overall do the same thing, have very unique etiquette and rules. It's not very hard in Twitter to get up to 1000 followers. When you have that many followers, you won't see many of their tweets. If you tweet 10 times in a day, odds are many of them won't be seen and will get drowned out by the other ones. However Facebook is more personal. It's harder to get 1000 friends because you have to accept them as friends. So when people go onto Facebook, they will see most of the messages that people post. Users usually will only make a few posts a week, so those will be easily seen. If you make a lot of posts on Twitter and connect these accounts, then all these posts will show up on Facebook. That could make your Facebook friends very mad.

Secondly, the format of writing is different. Twitter allows only 140 characters per tweet, so people abbreviate a lot and skip words to get their point across in that short frame. Facebook doesn't restrict you at 140 characters, so Facebook users expect full sentences. Pulling over your short tweets won't translate well to Facebook.

Also, many items are used in Twitter that aren't in Facebook. Hashtags are used frequently in Twitter and people search for them constantly, however those aren't really used in Facebook. The same goes for mention (@), when you are directing a tweet towards someone. Also, RT (Retweet) is commonly used in Twitter, but not at all in Facebook. You might see a tweet like this in Twitter: "Hey #ClevelandFolks, I'm all set to see @LadyGaga tonite! RT if u r going too" Now this gets your point across in Twitter, but your Facebook friends might appreciate a full sentence or two on it.

One final thing I like to do in my Twitter account is promote my Facebook page. It's a great way to get fans to your Fanpage if you own a business or blog. However, making a tweet like "Check out my Facebook fanpage at.... And let's be friends there too" will not come off well if that gets automatically transferred to Facebook!

The only people that I see connecting accounts good for, are those people who only make 1 tweet a day at most and don't employ all the hashtags and mentions. If you simply use Twitter to make a tweet or two about your day that could fit into Facebook, then this would be the only reason to connect accounts. Otherwise, it's best to leave them separate.

The wizard is one of the newest class additions to the Diablo game series, along with the witch doctor, monk, and demon hunter. It essentially replaces the sorceress that existed in Diablo II.

Leveling a wizard can be extremely time consuming if you don't properly prepare or use the right set of skills. Here are some of the best ways to ensure that you will level as fast as possible while playing a wizard in Diablo III.

First off, it's important to ensure that you do everything you reasonably can to get the best gear on your character for leveling. This doesn't mean that you need to seek out legendary gear but it does mean that you should check the auction house to get the best pieces you can afford as you level. Having good gear means that you'll do more damage and have more vitality; this is important and will increase the speed at which you can level. Other options for getting gear are checking out the vendors in town and using blacksmithing to create gear (you can also have a friend with blacksmithing do this for you).

Also, make sure that you have a ruby placed into the socket in your helm. A ruby in your helm will increase the amount of experience you gain while leveling and dramatically reduce your leveling time.

Finally, for your follower, be sure to choose a Templar so that he can heal you. This will provide you with the best survive-ability, which you will need to make it through Normal to Nightmare, onward through Hell and into Inferno.

While playing the wizard I've developed a build that is designed especially for leveling. It includes using the following skills: Magic Missiles, Arcane Orb, Frost Nova, Wave of Force, Familiar, and Magic Weapon.
For passive skills this build utilizes Glass Cannon, Astral Presence, and Power Hungry.
 
Remember that you won't get all of these skills right off the bat, so you'll need to be smart about it all and integrate them with the skills you currently have until you have all of the skills available to perfectly match the build.

If you are wondering what to expect when leveling a wizard, in terms of whether or not it will be slower to level than other classes, I can provide some insight since I have played all of the classes in game. If you take the time to get gear, socket your helm, pick the templar as your follower, use this build, and do your best to avoid taking loads of melee damage you will find that you can level as fast as or faster than the other classes in game.

Will Batman Die in The Dark Knight Rises?

Since the release of the latest trailer, fans have been speculating that Bruce Wayne will meet his end in The Dark Knight Rises. We all know this is both Christopher Nolan's and Christian Bale's last time spent on the Batman franchise. While Nolan is known for constantly trying to mislead audiences, Batman's death is certainly something that seems likely in third and final Dark Knight film.

When we last saw the Caped Crusader he was on the run from the law after taking the fall for crimes committed by District Attorney Harvey Dent. Set forward to this film eight years later, we find Bruce in retirement after temporarily hanging up the mantle. From what the trailers and TV spots have shown us is that Bruce is old and weakened in this film. Is this perhaps a sign of things to come for the Dark Knight?

Since this is the last film in Nolan's trilogy, it's fitting that he would want to wrap up Bruce's story full circle. Blockbuster trilogies rarely get fitting conclusions anymore. Comic book movies such as Spider-Man 3 and X-Men 3 ended either too softly or with unresolved cliffhangers while other franchises such as Pirates of the Caribbean 3 simply conclude by trying to set up sequels. It's a money-focused market where filmmakers don't have to power to do anything drastic to their films or characters that belong to high-grossing franchises. However, Nolan is not your usual director and it's likely that DC might let him conclude his story by having Bruce Wayne die while preventing future filmmakers from butchering his franchise with bad sequels.

To truly understand the enormity of the problem Warner Bros themselves face post Dark Knight Rises, is to look at what Nolan has achieved with his work on the Batman films. To take a product that was considered dead in the water after back-t0-back critical flops and turning it into a billion dollar franchise is an undisputed achievement which DC aren't likely to achieve again. Warner Bros have finished with Harry Potter and finishing with Batman and now left needing a new blockbuster hero. Will that be Superman? I doubt it.

Warner Bros don't have another big time superhero to turn to. Man of Steel faces an uphill battle to win over sceptics that find Superman unrelatable, while 2011′s Green Lantern killed off any potential for a Flash movie. They need a superhero property that keeps their presence felt in a market where rivals Marvel are currently dominating. Once Nolan's Batman trilogy wraps up, DC only has Superman left to compete. Even then, Man of Steel finds itself up against Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 in the same year.

I don't think Batman is going to die in The Dark Knight Rises. While studio factors are definitely a part of the reason, I just feel Nolan simply doesn't have to have Bruce Wayne die in order to complete his story. I think Gotham will realise Batman is their true white knight, and the film will end with Bruce Wayne going in to hiding akin to the ending of Frank Miller's masterpiece, The Dark Knight Returns.

As a side note, one of the best Batman comic books of the modern age contains Bruce's former sidekick Dick Grayson as the Caped Crusader. Batman doesn't need Bruce Wayne anymore. As said by Bruce Wayne in Batman Begins, "as a symbol I can be everlasting". A new face behind the mask means Warner Bros won't need to reboot the Batman franchise while leaving Nolan's trilogy intact.

We love to personalize everything on our phones i.e. the wall paper, the playlist, and our ringtones. This is definitely a hit especially if you own a smartphone. On smartphones, you can choose what song you would like to play when there is a call. But you have to choose your ringtone wisely, or you will forever say goodbye to a good impression on you. Do not choose a ringtone that isn't right for your age, or professional background. Choose a simple one, instead. Or just sell old phones online: That's a better choice!

3. Don't yell while talking on the phone. 
 If the call is choppy or static, better hang up. It's not necessary to turn up the volume of your voice. For some reasons, a lot of users talk on the phone as if they are arguing with the person on the other end of the line. You see, talking too loud will not make the experience enjoyable. Not to mention, the receiver will only find you too brash for a casual phone conversation.

4. Do not talk too loud if others can hear you.
Even if you are not talking about a personal or private matter, try to maintain a distance from the nearest person in the area while attending to the call. To be safe, find a quiet area where you can talk comfortably.

5. Don't text and drive at the same time.
This tip/warning/reminder bears repeating: Many people DIE of car accidents because of irresponsible driving. Which is more important? Your life and your car? Or the call? Set your priorities straight!

6. Excuse yourself before taking the call.
When there is an incoming call, do not forget that you also have the company you are with. Excuse yourself graciously and take the call. Keep it short so as not to send the message that the call is more important than the person you are presently with.

Why Is My Computer So Slow?

Microprocessors don't slow down as they get older, although that may sometimes be hard to believe. When your PC has ground to a virtual stop it's easy to think that old age is catching up and that it's time to trade the old girl in for a younger model. However, an irritatingly slow computer is not necessarily a reason for spending a fortune on a new one.

The joy of getting a new computer is that is seems to run so fast. Things which used to take ages on your old model happen at the click of a mouse. What a wonderful new world of computing. Over the next few months, imperceptibly at first, it doesn't seem quite as fast as it was. Oh no - not again! But it isn't processor fade which is causing the lethargy - the processing speed has not changed. The difference is that the processor is busier now than it was, but almost certainly not doing things that you want it to do.

Almost as soon as you start using a new computer you start adding files onto the disk. Some you create when you, say, write a letter. Then every time you visit a website, the page which is displayed is stored on the hard drive. If there are graphics on the page a lot of information will need to be saved. Maybe then you update a file. Add a PS to your letter perhaps. It shouldn't make much difference, but now the file is slightly too large for the space in the disc that the file was stored it. So your PC stores part of it where it was, and the rest in another empty part of the disc. Seamless, but now the computer needs to look up two separate pieces of information to display your letter. And the problem goes on and on.

In an ideal world, the so-called 'Temporary Internet Files' which are stored while you browse websites should be deleted when you've finished looking at them. Sadly we don't live in an ideal world, so often these files are just left cluttering up the disc.

Similarly you'd like to think that all the processing power of your super new PC would be able to keep the fragments of a file in one place so opening it again doesn't mean opening several segments of the file to enable it to display the whole file. Once again life is not quite so simple.

When you have got your mind around all of these unnecessary operations going on in the background just to do what should be a simple task, you begin to realise the nature of the problem. Your computer is not getting slower - it's getting busier, but most of what it does is simple housekeeping. Only a small amount of the processing power is actually used to do the things that you want.

Just when you think it can't get any worse, you then find out that the new software packages which you've loaded up all insist on starting up when you switch the computer on. You may only want to use your photo archiving software once a week, or once a month. However, when you installed it, the software nearly always insists that the program start up when you press the 'On' button. Even more operations for the processor to do, and the chances are you won't need the program at all today. You've just wasted a load of time loading it up and closing it down for no reason.

Then there are the more covert programs which are monitoring what you do. Often for legitimate purposes like deciding what adverts to show you when you are on a website. However, sometimes they are malware which is trying to steal your personal details for some nefarious purpose. Then there are viruses. It's very easy to pick up viruses and Trojan horses from opening emails or browsing the wrong websites. Some are really nasty and can do a lot of harm to your PC. Some are more of a nuisance and just slow things down. Either way it is not good news.

From the second that you switch on your new PC, more and more files start cluttering up the disc, and more and more programs start running in the background. You only notice that it seems to be getting slower and slower every day, until you finally have a mental breakdown. However it is possible to reverse this spiral of despair. Regular maintenance of you PC enables you to take control again. You don't need a computer repair technician - you just need to do some simple housekeeping on a regular basis. Delete unwanted 'Temporary' files. Run a good free 'Anti-virus' program regularly to make sure you don't have any unwelcome visitors on your disc. And make sure that the only programs which start up when you switch on are the ones you need. A regular program of housekeeping can help you get back the speed you thought you'd lost forever.
